
Dickinson State Softball took three games from Mayville State over the weekend. After dropping the first game on Saturday 9-2, the Blue Hawks bounced back and won the next three. Freshman Regan Lawrence (9-5) lost game one, while junior Taysia Kaufman improved her record to 9-10, in game two. Kaufman gave up four hits and struck out four in the 6-3 win. The hawks got offensive performances from senior Vanessa Adame who was 2-3 with 2 RBI's and junior Lindsey Sullivan who had a solo homerun.
On Sunday the hawks needed extra innings to beat Mayville State in the opening game of its Sunday softball doubleheader. DSU won the first game 4-3 in nine innings and wrapped up the series with an 11-3 victory.
Claudia Torres broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Janell LaRont for the game-winning run.
Regan Lawrence struck out nine in the first game and gave up only three hits, improving her record to 10-5. Kristy Ortiz drove in two runs. Jessica Huseby added a RBI. Janell LaRont and Vanessa Adame each went 3-for-5 in the opener.
Taysia Kaufman (10-10) was dominating on the mound once again striking out five and giving up 0 earned runs. The Hawks came out strong in game two and scored 5 runs in the first inning. Huseby, LaRont and Dani Benito each had two RBI in the second game. Laront and Adame each went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Huseby was 1-for-3 with three runs scored.
The Blue Hawks are ranked fourth in the NAIA Association of Independent Institutions standings on Monday, which puts them in line to be selected to the Aii Postseason Tournament, which begins May 3 in Columbus, Ga.
This weekend the Hawks will travel to Jamestown College for a four games series against the Hawks.
