DICKINSON, ND- DSU Track & Field Athlete, Isaac Reiss, and Blue Hawk Softball Player, Alex Vargas, have been named this weeks Athletes of the Week for their performances for Blue Hawk athletics last week.
Isaac Reiss – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Senior – Shepherd, Mont. – Reiss of Dickinson State (N.D.) placed first out of 567 runners during his marathon debut in the All-American Marathon in Fayetteville, N.C. He ran a time of 2 hours, 49 minutes and 11 seconds, which is a national qualifying time for the event. Reiss' time also meets the qualifying standards for the 2017 Boston Marathon. Isaac was also named the NSAA Track & Field Athlete of the week.
Alex Vargas – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'8" – Senior – Second Base – Corona, Calif. –Vargas posted a batting average .643 as Dickinson State (N.D.) went 7-1 record for the week, including 3-1 record in the NSAA triangular with Bellevue (Neb.) and Dakota State (S.D.) and a four-game series sweep over Presentation (S.D.). She was 18-of-28 at the plate and scored 10 runs. Vargas produced a slugging percentage of 1.429 with four home runs (all against Presentation), four doubles and three triples. She drove in 11 runs. Alex was also named NAIA Softball Player of the Week as well as NSAA Softball Player of the Week.
