Hopkins Commits to Play Hoops for DSU

Karen Hopkins     5'6    Guard Oklahoma City, OK

Dickinson, ND-Coach Lewis is proud to announce the signing of 5'6 shooting guard, Karen Hopkins. Karen played for Western Heights High School where she averaged 15 ppg, 5 reb, and 3 assists. She also received the 2011 Shooting Guard Award and Best Defensive Player. After high school, Karen attended Western Oklahoma State College, where she played for two seasons. Hopkins averaged 11 ppg, 3 steals and 3 assists. Karen will enter into Dickinson State as a Junior and study Psychology.

"Karen will be a great addition to our team this year. She is quick, athletic and has the experience that we are lacking in other areas. Karen will be a great asset to have on both ends of the court, " stated Head Women's Basketball Coach Liz Lewis

Hopkins on choosing Dickinson State University:

"Dickinson State University is a close knit community which is something that is really important to me. DSU has coaches, along with professors that want you to succeed, not only athletically but also academically. DSU gives their students opportunities to become better people and prepares them for the real world."

Hopkins will join earlier signees Madison Hansen, Jennifer Burnham, Isidora Tasovic, Tarissa Phipps, Natalee Hafer, Chelsey Borden, and Riley Helmick.

The Blue Hawks will return three players from last season. Sydney Bentz who played in 16 games last year and averaged 4.7 ppg. Samantha Morgan who played in 10 games and averaged 7.5 ppg and Paitton Herbst who played in 30 games and averaged 7.7 ppg.
