UPDATE: Blue Hawks take two from Presentation

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Blue Hawks took both games from Presentation College on Friday (Apr. 11) in a North Star matchup.  Dickinson State was victorious in game one, 8-7, and in game two, 5-2.  Dickinson State is now 7-29 on the year and 3-7 in North Star play.

The Blue Hawks' bats got things going in the first inning.  Jordan Tescher drove homeAustin Taft on a double to left field for the first run.  Eric Contreras then roped a triple to score Tescher.  Chris Mjelstad followed that with a single to give the Blue Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Saints got two runs back in the bottom half, thanks to a two-run homerun by Ryan Baldonado. 

Scoring was quiet until the bottom of the third, when the Saints scored twice to take a 4-3 lead.

Dickinson State was able to tie the game in the top of the fourth on a double by Caleb Burgardthat scored Mjelstad.

The Saints pushed across three in the fifth to gain a 7-4 advantage.

In the top of the sixth the Blue Hawks struck again.  Ryan Risse walked.  Jeff VanCleavefollowed with a bunt single.  Burgard sacrificed both runners over.  Eric Seiler, pinch hitting forJoe Binstock, drew a walk to load the bases.  Binstock reentered as a pinch runner for Seiler.  Taft hit a sacrifice fly to left and brought home Risse, cutting the deficit to 7-5.

The Blue Hawks poured it out in the top of the seventh.  Mjelstad doubled to drive homeThad Lane, who pinch ran for Contreras.  VanCleave walked and was lifted for pinch runnerSam Bisson.  Burgard hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Mjelstad, who advanced to third on a passed ball.  Binstock lacked a single to center and was followed by a double from Taft, which scored Bisson and gave the Blue Hawks an 8-7 advantage.

Chas Allen recorded the win in 1.2 innings of relief.  Ian Anderson picked up his second save of the season.  Taft had a pair of hits and two RBIs.  Mjelstad had three hits and two runs driven in, as well as two runs scored.  Burgard had two hits and two RBIs. 

In game two the Blue Hawks started the offense in the third inning.

Binstock reached on an error to leadoff.  Taft then drew a walk.  Burgard singled to load the bases.  Contreras laced a single to left and brought home both Binstock and Taft.  Mjelstad singled to score Burgard.  Risse followed him with a single to score Contreras.  The Blue Hawks ended the inning with a 3-0 lead. 

The Blue Hawks would add a fourth run in the top of the fourth on a wild throw that allowed Binstock to score.

The Saints added one run in both the fourth and fifth innings, but the Blue Hawks prevailed by a score of 5-2. 

Seiler went seven innings and allowed two runs on 10 hits.  Allen recorded his first hold of the season in one inning of work.  Anderson record his third save.  Contreras had two RBIs and two hits.  Mjelstad had a pair of hits and a run driven in.  Risse drove a run in and had two hits. 

The Blue Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 16) when they host the University of Jamestown.
