DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks dropped both games of their doubleheader against Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday (Mar. 28). Dickinson State fell 2-1, in game one, before falling 9-1 in the back end. Dickinson State is now 4-20 overall.
In game one the Concordia put up two runs in the second off of Blue Hawks' starterTim Catalano. Jordan Gefroh drove home Michael Olson for the game's first run. Ryan Smith then singled home Gefroh to give the Cobbers a 2-0 lead.
Joe Binstock had the lone hit for the Blue Hawks. He singled in the bottom of the first with one out. After a fielder's choice and an error, he found himself at second. A passed ball advanced Binstock to third. Chris Mjelstad hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Binstock to jog home.
That would be all the offense from either team. Catalano went the distance for Dickinson State and allowed just two runs on nine hits.
In game two the Cobbers' bats woke up.
Concordia-Moorhead tallied twice in the first, once in the second, once in the third, and once in the fourth. They were held scoreless in the fifth, but tallied twice in both the sixth and seventh innings.
The Blue Hawks will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 29) when they host Valley City State in a North Star Athletic Association doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
