DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks fell in the final two games of their four game series against Valley City State on Sunday (Mar. 30). Dickinson State dropped game one, 9-1, before falling in game two 5-0. The Blue Hawks are now 5-23 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
In game one the Vikings scored at least one run in each of the first five innings. Brady Anderson continued to stay hot, going 4-for-5, with five RBIs.
The Blue Hawks scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning. Eric Seiler reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild throw by Anderson. Jordan Tescher roped a two-out single to drive home Seiler.
In the second game Valley City opened the scoring in the first. The first batter of the ballgame, Robert Wiley, hit a sharp grounder up the middle that was snared by shortstop Thad Lane. Lane spun and fired to first to retire Wiley. With one out Kayle Hamre was hit by a pitch and advanced to second when Anderson grounded out softly. Cole Honl drove him in with a double to right-center.
The Vikings scored again the third on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Necochea. Following the sac-fly, Honl advanced to third with two outs. Dan Buehner then laced a grounder towards third that should have gone through, but Tescher made a diving stop and retired Buehner to keep the score at 2-0.
Both offenses were quiet until the seventh. A pair of errors in the seventh inning helped the Vikings plate three runs to give them a 5-0 margin.
Brendan Hardaway went the full seven innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits. He struck out three hitters. Austin Taft had a pair of hits. Caleb Burgard and Mjelstad each had a hit.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the field on Wednesday (Apr. 2) when they host Jamestown in a North Star doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
