DICKINSON, N.D. - Nate Williams hit a 2-run home run in the eighth inning, breaking a 3-3 tie, as top seed Mayville State survived an upset bid by Dickinson State in the first round of the North Star Athletic Association baseball tournament.

Williams' blast off the left-field light pole gave the Comets a 5-3 lead and capped five straight unanswered runs by the Comets, who picked up the 5-3 victory over the No. 6 seed Blue Hawks.

Dickinson State (16-30) will now play University of Jamestown at 12 p.m. MT Saturday in a loser-out contest. Mayville State will take on Dakota State at 3 p.m.

Dickinson left a run on the bases in the third inning when Caleb Burgard failed to touch first base on what would have been an RBI double.

The Comets finally struck back in the fifth inning, tying the game with three runs of their own, which set up Williams' heroics in the bottom of the eight.
