Tescher Named NSAA Player of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its third edition of the baseball weekly honors, announced by the conference office Monday.  Jordan Tescher of Dickinson State (N.D.) was named to Player-of-the-Week honor, while Bryant Westra of Dakota State (S.D.) was chosen as Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Jordan Tescher – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 6'0" – Sophomore – Outfielder – Beach, N.D. – Tescher recorded a batting average of .750 and a slugging percentage of 1.333 as Dickinson State (N.D.) opened the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference season with a four-game series split with Presentation (S.D.).  He smashed a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, which led to five runs in third game of the series but Blue Hawks' comeback fell short.  Tescher also added a 2-RBI double in the third inning of the fourth game in the series, followed by a 2-run home run in the bottom fifth inning to give the Blue Hawks a four-run lead.  For the week, Tescher was 9-of-12 at the plate with a double, two home runs and drove in eight runs.  He scored nine times, reached on base by a walk five times and swiped one base.

Bryant Westra – Dakota State (S.D.) – 6'3" – Senior – Pitcher – Muskegon, Mich. – Westra earned a save and a victory as Dakota State (S.D.) kicked off the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference season with a four-game series with Valley City State (N.D.).  In the second game of the series, he pitched in the seventh inning to earn his first save of the season, giving up a hit in 5-4 Trojans victory.  Westra added a complete game victory in the third game of the series.  After giving up two runs in the opening inning, he limited the Vikings to one run afterwards.  He retired 12 consecutive VCSU's batters from the last out of the top third inning through the seventh inning until he gave up back-to-back singles.  Overall for the week, Westra tossed eight innings, gave up three runs on nine hits.  He recorded six strikeouts and did not give up a walk with an earned run average of 3.38.

Dakota State (S.D.) split a non-conference doubleheader with in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) on March 25.  The Trojans' snapped their eight-game losing skid with a 3-1 game one victory, but the Lancers took the second game by the score of 15-3.

All six North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) members opened up the conference season March 28.  Four teams – Dakota State (S.D.), Dickinson State (N.D.), Presentation (S.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) split a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday, resulting a four-way tie for first-place in the NSAA conference standings with a 2-2 conference record.

Valley City State and Dakota State split a doubleheader on March 28.  The Vikings won the first game by the score of 8-6.  The Trojans earned their first NSAA conference victory this season by holding on to a 5-4 victory in the second game.  On March 29, DaSU won the first game by the score of 9-3. VCSU wrapped up the four-game series with an 8-2 victory over the Trojans.  VCSU is 18-15 overall record.  DaSU is 6-21 overall record.

Dickinson State won the NSAA conference opener with a doubleheader sweep over Presentation on March 28.  The Blue Hawks posted scores of 2-1 and 15-10.  The Saints rallied back to earn a doubleheader sweep on March 29 with a pair of 8-7 victories.  DiSU is 10-15 overall record, while Presentation is 10-21 overall record.

Jamestown (N.D.) and Mayville State (N.D.) split their doubleheader in Redfield, S.D. on March 28 with the Comets winning the first game 4-3.  The Jimmies won the second game by the score of 6-1.  UJ is 9-10 overall record on the season and MSU is 14-13 overall record.  Both Jimmies and Comets are 1-1 in the NSAA conference play and will complete their four-game series Monday (today) in Mayville.

Looking Ahead
Jamestown (N.D.) and Mayville State (N.D.) will complete their NSAA's conference four-game series in Mayville, N.D. Monday afternoon (today) at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader.

The Comets travel to Dordt (Iowa) Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. 

The Jimmies will host Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) Tuesday afternoon with a nine-inning game, starting at 3 p.m.

Dakota State (S.D.) continues their home stand Tuesday afternoon, hosting their in-state rival Mount Marty (S.D.) in a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.  The Trojans visit Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Wednesday for a nine-inning game at 2 p.m.

The NSAA conference action returns back on Friday and Saturday with a four-game series.  Dickinson State (N.D.) plays Dakota State (S.D.) in Madison, S.D.  Jamestown visits Valley City State (N.D.) in Valley City, N.D. and Mayville State takes on Presentation (S.D.) in Aberdeen, N.D.
