DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team swept long-time rival, the University of Mary, on Wednesday at Astoria Field.
The Blue Hawks got on the board early, scoring seven runs in the first inning then adding five more runs in the next four innings. U-Mary plated two runs in the fifth inning then put up five runs in the seventh with three Blue Hawk errors. Dickinson State won 12-7.
Josh Schuller picked up the win in game one going four innings allowing no runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Jake Young led the Blue Hawks going 3-5 with a double and four RBI's. Sagan Osborne was also 3-5 with a double and two RBI's. Jacob Cuch and Jake Hignite were both 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Andrew Sampsel added a single in the win.
In game two, the Blue Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the first. U-Mary scored one run in the top of the fourth and two runs in the top of the eighth to take a one run lead. Dickinson State then put up a three spot in the bottom of the eighth started off with a two run double by Cuch. Dickinson State won 6-3.
Five DSU pitchers pitched in the game with Jason Thibault picking up his first collegiate win after throwing three innings allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Blue Hawks only tallied five hits in the game but they came at the right times. Jacob Cuch was 1-3 with a double and four RBI's. Jake Young was 1-2 with a double and Tyler Czech was 1-4 with a double. Dylan Skabo added a single while John Hollingsworth added a RBI single in a pinch hit at-bat.
The Blue Hawks are now 8-8 overall and hit the road Thursday for Tucson, AZ. for 10 games over spring break.
