Blue Hawk Baseball Falls to Jimmies in Double-Header

JAMESTOWN, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team lost a pair of games on Sunday to the University of Jamestown.

Game 1: UJ 5, DSU 1

Box Score

The University of Jamestown plated one run in the third, fifth and sixth innings before the Blue Hawks scored a run in the seventh but the Jimmies scored two in the bottom of the eighth to take game one by a score of 5-1.

The Blue Hawks finished the game with one run on seven hits with three errors while the Jimmies finished the game with five runs on eight hits with one error.

Nate Demarais led the Blue Hawks going 3-4 while Sagan Osborne, Jacob Cuch, Lucas Rissler and Ryan Absher each recorded a hit in the loss. 

Jalen Lane took the loss on the mound going 7.1 innings allowing five runs (3 earned) on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Brock Messer tossed 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs on no hits.

Game 2: UJ 9, DSU 5

Box Score

The Jimmies took a four run lead after three innings before the Blue Hawks would score five un-answered runs at took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Jimmies would rally for five runs on four hits in the ninth and win on a walk-off grand slam to beat the Blue Hawks 9-5.

The Blue Hawks finished the game with five runs on eight hits with three errors while the Jimmies finished with nine runs on 12 hits with no errors.

Osborne led the Blue Hawk hitters going 2-4 with a bouble and an RBI while Cuch added two hits including a double. Chad Mackay and Rissler each recorded a hit and two RBI's. Demarais and Will Quito both recorded a hit in the loss.

Sean Getchell started the game going five innings allowing four runs (3 earned) on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Joey Buchanan tossed 2.1 innings allowing no runs on two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Tristan Allen threw 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs on no hits with a strikeout. Jon Koessl took the loss after throwing the ninth inning allowing five runs on four hits with one walk in 1/3 of an inning.

Dickinson State is now 0-4 on the season and will host the University of Winnipeg on Sunday, September 25th at Astoria Field. First pitch of the double-header is at 12:00 PM (MDT).
