Blue Hawk Baseball uses Long Ball to Sweep Winnipeg

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team compiled 29 runs on 31 hits and five homeruns in their double-header sweep of the University of Winnipeg on Sunday at Astoria Field.

Game 1: DSU 12, UW 0

The Blue Hawks plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning, one in the third, three in the fifth and four in the sixth to defeat the Wesmen 12-0.

Lucas Rissler led the Blue Hawks at the plate going 3-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI's. Trevor Oldham was also 3-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI's. Sagan Osborne was 3-4 with a homerun, four runs scored and one RBI with a stolen base. TJ McCullough went 2-4 with a double and two RBI's while Chad Mackay added a solo homerun. Jacob Cuch and Ryan Absher each added a hit in the win.

Jalen Lane picked up his first career college win for the Blue Hawks tossing a three hit shutout with two walks and five strikeouts.

Game 2: DSU 17, UW 4

The Blue Hawks scored three runs in the first, two in the second and five in the third before the Wesmen plated three runs in the fourth. DSU answered back with two in the bottom of the fourth. UW would score a run in the fifth but Dickinson State would add three in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to defeat the Wesman 17-4.

Osborne continued his great day at the plate going 3-5 with two homeruns, three runs scored and six RBI's. McCullough was a perfect 4-4 with a homerun, two runs scored and three RBI's while Danny Brescia added a triple and a double with three runs scored and an RBI. Alex Ross was 2-3 with two runs scored. Cuch was 3-4 with a double and three RBI's while Nate Demarais added a double and Oldham added a single in the win.

Sean Getchell picked up the win going four innings allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Gabe Lizarraga tossed two innings allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

Dickinson State is now 2-4 overall and will finish their fall season next Sunday as they travel to Valley City State University to take on the Vikings in a double-header beginning at 1:00 PM (MDT).
