VALLEY CITY, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team split a double-header against the Valley City State University Vikings on Sunday.
Game 1: VCSU 8, DSU 1
Valley City State plated two runs in the first and one in the second to take a three run lead after three innings. The Blue Hawks scored their lone run in the fourth inning while the Vikings scored one in the sixth and seventh followed by three in the eighth to beat DSU 8-1.
The Blue Hawks finished with one run on four hits with three errors while the Vikings finished with eight runs on seven hits with three errors.
Jalen Lane took the loss going seven innings allowing five runs on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jon Koessl tossed one inning allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit with two walks.
Game 2: DSU 13, VCSU 5
Dickinson State scored three runs in the first inning, three in the third and four in the fourth before the Vikings plated two runs in the fourth. DSU would add three more runs in the sixth followed by one run by VCSU in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the seventh to fall to the Blue Hawks 13-5.
The Blue Hawks scored 13 runs on 15 hits with three errors while the Vikings scored five runs on 10 hits with one error.
Trevor Oldham led the Blue Hawks going 3-5 with two doubles and five RBI's while Rissler was also 3-5 with four RBI's. Osborne went 3-6 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI with a stolen base. Jacob Cuch added two hits including a double and an RBI. Ryan Absher finished with a hit and two RBI's while Demarais, Danny Bescia and TJ McCullough all recorded a hit in the win.
Joey Buchanan earned the win going five innings allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Sean Getchell threw one inning allowing one run on one hit with one walk and two strikeouts while Gabe Lizarraga tossed three innings allowing two runs on two hits with a walk.
Dickinson State is now 3-5 on the season and will open the 2017 spring season in U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, March 4th when they take on NCAA DII Minnesota-Crookston.
