Blue Hawks swept by Beavers

WATFORD CITY, ND- The Dickinson State University Baseball team dropped both games of a double-header against NCAA D2 Minot State University on Wednesday.

Game 1: MSU 13, DSU 10

Dickinson State plated six runs in the top of the first but Minot State answered with four in the bottom. DSU would add four runs in the top of the third but MSU plated five in the bottom of the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth to beat DSU 13-10.

The Blue Hawks were led by Nate Demarais, Dylan Skabo and Micquel Robinson with two hits each. Trevor Oldham had a homerun and Lucas Rissler and TJ McCullough each recorded a hit in the loss.

Jon Koessl took the loss in relief going three innings allowing four runs (3 earned) on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Jalen Lane started the game going three innings allowing nine runs (7 earned) on 11 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Minot State finished the game with 13 runs on 15 hits with three errors while Dickinson State finished with 10 runs on nine hits with two errors.

Game 2: MSU 21, DSU 2

Minot State tallied 16 runs in the first three innings before the Blue Hawks plated a run in the fifth. MSU then scored five runs in the fifth and DSU scored a run in the sixth to fall to Minot State 21-2.

Jacob Cuch led the Blue Hawks going 3-3 with a homerun while Nate Demarais and Dylan Skabo each had two hits. Ryan Absher had a double and Sagan Osborne had a hit in the loss.

Joey Buchanan took the loss going 1.1 innings allowing 11 runs (7 earned) on six hits with three walks and a strikeout. Taylor Dantini tossed .2 innings allowing five runs on two hits with five walks. Karson Hanosky threw two innings allowing no runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Brock Messer tossed one inning allowing five runs on six hits with a walk and two strikeouts while Konner Goettsche threw the final inning allowing no runs on no hits with a strikeout.

"We did not play very good baseball today," said DSU Head Coach Jason Watson. "We struggled in every aspect of the game and it showed with two losses. "We have the ability to be a very competitive team but we need to start playing more consistent baseball."

Dickinson State is now 10-12 overall and opens their NSAA season on Saturday (1:00 PM MDT) and Sunday (11:00 AM MDT) as they face off with the Presentation College Saints for four games in Aberdeen, SD.
