Blue Hawks sweep Saints in NSAA opening weekend series

ABERDEEN, SD- The Dickinson State University Baseball team swept a four game series against the Presentation College Saints to open the 2017 NSAA season.

Game 1: DSU 5, PC 3

Box Score

The Blue Hawks plated two runs in the top of the third while the Saints scored a run in the bottom of the fourth. DSU then added two runs in the top of the fifth and PC scored a run in the sixth and seventh before DSU added a run in the top of the ninth to win 5-3.

Dickinson State finished with five runs on 15 hits with an error while Presentation College finished with three runs on nine hits with no errors.

Gabe Lizarraga picked up the win going seven innings allowing three runs (2 earned) on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jon Koessl tossed the eighth inning allowing no runs on no hits with a strikeout. Sean Getchell picked up the save going one inning allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

Lucas Rissler led the Blue Hawks with four hits, Jacob Cuch had three hits including a double while Danny Brescia also recorded three hits. Sagan Osborne finished with two hits including a double while Nate Demarais and Micquel Robinson also had a double. Trevor Oldham recorded a hit in the win.

Game 2: DSU 6, PC 4

Box Score

Dickinson State scored two runs in the top of the first but Presentation College answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. DSU would tie the game in the top of the sixth with a run and take the lead in the top of the seventh with a run. PC tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a run but DSU added two runs in the top of the eighth to win 6-4.

The Blue Hawks finished with six runs on eight hits with two errors while the Saints finished with four runs on five hits with three errors.

Ryan Absher took a no decision after going six innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on three hits with six walks and four strikeouts. Sean Getchell earned the win going two innings allowing one run (0 earned) on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Trevor Oldham finished with a homerun and Dylan Skabo and Jacob Cuch each had a double. Chad Mackay, Sagan Osborne, Lucas Rissler, TJ McCullough and Micquel Robinson all had a hit in the win.

Game 3: DSU 7, PC 4

Box Score

DSU scored a run in the top of the first but PC answered with two in the bottom of the first and another run in the bottom of the fourth. The Blue HAwks then plated four runs in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh before PC added a run in the bottom of the ninth but Dickinson State held on for a 7-4 win.

Dickinson State finished with seven runs on 12 hits with two errors while Presentation College finished with four runs on nine hits with an error.

Jalen Lane earned the win going seven innings allowing three runs (2 earned) on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Taylor Dantini tossed the eighth inning allowing no runs on no hits with a strikeout. Konner Goettsche threw 2/3 of an inning allowing one run on two hits with a walk. Jacob Cuch picked up the save going 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs on no hits.

Nate Demarais led the Blue Hawks with three hits. Dylan Skabo and Micquel Robinson each had two hits including a double while Danny Brescia and Sagan Osborne added two hits each. Jacob Cuch finished with a double in the win.

Game 4: DSU 6, PC 5

Box Score

The Blue Hawks scored a run in the top of the first before the Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the second. DSU would take the lead in the top of the third with two runs but PC tied it up with a run in the bottom of the third. Dickinson State then plated three runs in the top of the fifth while PC scored a run in the fifth and sixth but DSU held on for the four game sweep with a final score of 6-5.

DSU finished with six runs on 10 hits with three errors while PC finished with five runs on nine hits with an error.

Joey Buchanan earned the win going four innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on four hits with a strikeout. Jon Koessl threw two innings allowing two runs on four hits with a strikeout. Sean Getchell picked up the save going one inning allowing no runs on one hit with two walks.

Jacob Cuch led the Blue Hawks with three hits. Sagan Osborne added two hits including a homerun while Micquel Robinson finished with two hits. Nate Demarais, Dylan Skabo and TJ McCullough each finished with a double in the win.

Dickinson State is now 14-12 overall and 4-0 in NSAA play. The Blue Hawks will host the University of Jamestown in a four game NSAA series this weekend at Astoria Field. Saturday game one starts at 1:00 PM (MDT) and Sunday's game one starts at 12:00 PM (MDT).
