Blue Hawks fall to Northern, 40-17

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks fell to Montana State University-Northern on Saturday (Sep. 6), by a score of 40-17.  Dickinson State is 0-2 on the season.

In the first quarter Zach McKinley caught an 88-yard pass from Travis Dean to open the scoring for Northern.  Dean would throw a second touchdown pass later in the quarter for 19 yards to Trevor Baum.

Dickinson State's lone scoring drive in the first was on a 48-yard field goal from Josh Borm.

In the second quarter McKinley punched two short rushes in for a pair of touchdowns, before breaking a 76-yard run in the third quarter. 

The Blue Hawks retaliated with a 55-yard pass from Thad Lane, who found JT Keith open for Lane's first touchdown pass of the season.  To cap the third quarter, Northern kicker Jordan Rueschoff converted a 56-yard field goal attempt.

Dickinson State tallied once more in the fourth quarter.  Brian Cronnelly found Austin Brown on a 16-yard pass.  Cronnelly then picked up the two-point conversion.

The Blue Hawks next game is Saturday (Sep. 13) when they travel to Waldorf for the first North Star Athletic Association game of the season.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
