PREVIEW: Blue Hawks Set to Take on First Conference Challenge

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks will take on their first conference opponent of the season on Saturday (Sept. 13).  Dickinson State will tackle Waldorf College in Iowa.  Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.  The Blue Hawks are 0-2 on the season, while Waldorf is 2-1. 

Waldorf opened their season against conference foe Mayville State and dropped the Comets 48-0.  Dedarius Bridges ran for 217 yards, on 27 carries, and two touchdowns.  Christopher Smith hurled two touchdown passes, while throwing for 199 yards.  Waldorf notched a total of 552 offensive yards and allowed just 68 yards on defense. 

In the second game of the season against Trinity Bible College, Waldorf recorded a 68-42 victory.  Lavelle Maddox ran for 107 yards on 13 carries.  Smith threw for 208 yards with two touchdowns and one pick.  Wayne Davis had 10 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.  Waldorf's offense put up 645 yards, but allowed 373 total yards on defense.  Trinity Bible ran for 167 yards, while picking up 207 more yards on the ground.

It was a different story, however, when Waldorf met Wisconsin-Whitewater.  Whitewater is the No. 1 ranked team in the NCAA Division III.  Whitewater picked up a total of 450 yards of offense, including 215 on the ground.  Smith was intercepted twice by the Whitewater defense.  Isaac Sanchez was also picked off once. 

The Blue Hawks opened their season against Rocky Mountain College.  The Battlin' Bears were able to best their former conference foe 40-21.  Kaler Ray threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns.  JT Keith brought in five receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown.  Seth Ewoniuk also had five receptions.  Ewoniuk's catches went for 74 yards and one toudhdown.  Josh Borm's lone catch of the day was 35-yard touchdown.  On defense, Sam Herauf picked up two sacks.  Freshman linebacker Tommy Sease recorded one sack, two unassisted tackles, and five assists. 

In the second game against Montana State University-Northern, Dickinson State fell 40-17.  Thad Lane tossed for 117 yards and one touchdown.  Brian Cronnelly had one touchdown pass and 35 yards.  Dalton Reid led the receivers with five receptions for 58 yards.  Keith and Austin Brown each had a touchdown grab. 

Dickinson State did not play Waldorf during the 2013 season.
