DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks routed Mayville State on Saturday (Oct. 25) in a North Star Athletic Association meeting, 40-7. Dickinson State is now 4-4 overall and 2-1 in North Star play.
Myren Moore opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 52-yard run on the second offensive play for the Blue Hawks. Josh Borm added a field goal at 10:53 to make the lead 10-0. Borm added a 31-yard field goal with 7:23 remaining in the first to give the Blue Hawks a 13-0 lead. Kaler Ray scored with 14 seconds remaining in the first on a 20-yard keeper.
Eight seconds into the second quarter Robert Nalewaja picked off a pass from Aaron Cruz for 35 yards and the score, giving Dickinson State a 26-0 lead. Jesse Carney found his way to the end zone with 11:13 remaining in the half on a 30-yard run.
Mayville got on the board in with 1:13 remaining in the second on a 42-yard reception by Lance Jackson. Dickinson State took a 33-7 lead into the locker rooms.
The only scoring play of the second half was a 54-yard run by Moore, sealing the Blue Hawks 40-7 victory.
Cruz threw for 190 yards and a touchdown, but had an interception. Jackson caught nine passes for 139 yards. The Comets finished with -19 rushing yards. Raven Smith recorded 14 tackles, while Jacob Grosz notched 10. Smith, Travis Ahlgren, and Dusty Delk each had at least a half sack.
Moore rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Carney picked up 99 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Ray ran for 85 yards. Alex Huitzil, Brock Wigert, and Matt Perdue each recorded six tackles. Wigert notched 1.5 sacks, while Matt McCoy, and Thomas Sease chipped in another. Collin Baumgart recorded two sacks for a loss of 24 yards. Nalewaja had an interception and defensive touchdown. The Blue Hawks finished with 313 rushing yards.
Dickinson State will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 1) when they host Presentation. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
