Sterling Earns Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Offensive Player-of-the-Week

MADISON, S.D. – Dacotah Bank and the North Star Athletic Association are proud to announce the third edition of the Football Players-of-the-Week honors, announced by the conference office Monday.  Robert Sterling of Dickinson State (N.D.) was selected as its Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Ben Kullos of Dakota State (S.D.) was named Defensive Player-of-the-Week.  Dustin Wilke of Waldorf (Iowa) was chosen as its Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

Robert Sterling – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'10" – 180 lbs., Junior – quarterback – Palmdale, Calif. – Sterling completed 11 passes in 18 attempts for 157 yards and rushed 12 times for 99 yards in helping Dickinson State (N.D.) defeat Jamestown (N.D.) 24-14 in a non-conference game.  He also rushed for two touchdowns.

Ben Kullos – Dakota State (S.D.) – 5'9" – 210 lbs., Senior – linebacker – Peoria, Ariz.. – Despite losing 24-17 in Dacotah Bank/NSAA conference opener versus Waldorf (Iowa), Dakota State's (S.D.) Ben Kullos set the school record for most tackles in a single game.  He tallied a total of 25 tackles in the game, breaking the previous old record of 23 tackles set in 2007.  Kullos had 18 assist tackles and 7 solo tackles.  He had 4.0 tackles-for-loss of 12 yards, including one-and-one-half quarterback sack.

Dustin Wilke – Waldorf (Iowa) – 6'1" – 200 lbs., Junior – kicker/punter – Holzgerlingen, Germany – Wilke was perfect 3-for-3 on PAT extra-point kick and added a 30-yard field goal as Waldorf (Iowa) defeat Dakota State (S.D.) in Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football conference opener.  He also had nine total punts for a total of 331 yards (36.7 yards per punt) and five kickoffs for a total of 252 yards (50.4 yards per kickoff).

Recap from Saturday's Games
The third edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Game of the Week saw a pair of NAIA's Top 25 teams – No. 20 Robert Morris (Ill.) and No. 17 Valley City State (N.D.) – battle at the Lokken Stadium in Valley City, N.D.  The Vikings earned a 14-7 lead after the end of the first quarter, but were shut out by the Eagles 21-0 in the last three quarters of the game.  Robert Morris went on to defeat the Vikings by the score of 28-14.  RMU rushed 69 times for 353 yards compared to VCSU 21 rushes for 39 yards.  The Vikings, who fell to 2-1 overall record this season, out-passed the Eagles 236-129.

Mayville State (N.D.) earned their second victory of the season after trailing in the first quarter versus Trinity Bible (N.D.).  The Lions gained a 14-6 lead after the first quarter, but the Comets scored 45 unanswered points to cruise to a 51-14 victory.  MSU outgained TBC 559-369 in total offensive yards.

Dickinson State (N.D.) defeated Jamestown (N.D.) 24-14 in a non-conference game in Dickinson, N.D.  The Blue Hawks opened up with a 14-0 lead and never looked back for a ten-point victory.  DiSU had 25 first-downs in the game while UJ only had 8 first-downs.  The Jimmies were held to minus 9 yards in 26 attempts while the Blue Hawks rushed 52 times for 286 yards. 

Waldorf (Iowa) held on to defeat Dakota State (S.D.) to kick off the Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football conference season.  With the game tied 17-17 heading in the fourth quarter, the Warriors scored a touchdown to grab a 24-17 lead.  WC was able to survive the game as they recovered the fumble committed by the Trojans on WC's 1-yard line with 3:35 remaining in the game.  DaSU outgained WC 380-315 in total offensive yards.

Looking Ahead
Dickinson State (N.D.) at Presentation (S.D.) will be the feature game for the third edition of the Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Game-of-the-Week on Saturday.  Both teams are playing their first conference game of the season.  The game will take place at Swisher Field in Aberdeen, S.D. with a kick-off starting at 6 p.m.

Two other Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football conference will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday with Waldorf (Iowa) hosting No. 17 Valley City State (N.D.) in Forest City, Iowa and Dakota State (S.D.) visiting Jamestown (N.D.) in Jamestown, N.D.
