DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Football team defeated #15 Valley City State University on Saturday in a NSAA Battle of Undefeated teams 28-7 at the Henry Biesiot Activities Center.
The Blue Hawks and Vikings exchanged a few possessions in the first quarter with both teams unable to put points on the board. The Blue Hawks were unable to convert a fourth down on their opening drive with the next four possessions for the teams lead to punts. The Blue Hawks final drive in the first quarter ended with a interception in the endzone.
In the second quarter, the Vikings first drive fell short as Robert Nalweaja intercepted his first of three picks of the game. The lone scoring for both teams in the second quarter came on a Seth Moerkerke Quarterback keeper to put the Blue Hawks up 7-0 going into half time.
The first scoring of the second half came when defensive lineman, Noey Tauave, picked up a Viking fumble and took it to the house to put the Blue Hawks up 14-0. Last weeks NAIA Offensive Player of the Week, Tray Boone, then scored a 27 yard touchdown run to put Dickinson State up 21-0. Valley City State scored their only touchdown of the day late in the third when Colby Lum ran in a three yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-7.
The Blue Hawks are now 4-1 overall and 2-0 NSAA. Dickinson State will host Waldorf College next Sunday in a NSAA showdown. This game will also be Dickinson State University's Homecoming game. Game time is set for 1:00 PM (MDT).
