Robert Nalewaja Named Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – Dacotah Bank and the North Star Athletic Association are proud to announce the fifth edition of the Football Players-of-the-Week honors Monday.  Andrew Blake of Mayville State (N.D.) was selected as its Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Robert Nalewaja of Dickinson State (N.D.) was chosen as its Defensive Player-of-the-Week.  Nic Behrens of Dakota State (S.D.) was named to Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Andrew Blake – Mayville State (N.D.) – 5'9" – 175 lbs., Sophomore – quarterback – Murrieta, Calif. – Blake completed 26 passes in 34 attempts for a total of 323 passing yards in helping Mayville State (N.D.) secure their first conference victory of the season with a 56-48 victory over Presentation (S.D.).  He also threw for five touchdowns in the game, including a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter of the game (16-yard touchdown pass with 9:48 remaining and 37-yard pass with 2:19 left in the game).    

Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Robert Nalewaja – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'10" – 170 lbs., Junior – defensive back – Miles City, Mont.. – Nalewaja had three interceptions in helping Dickinson State (N.D.) earn a 28-7 upset victory over No. 15-ranked Valley City State (N.D.).  He also had a solo tackle and an assist tackle for the Blue Hawks.    

Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Nic Behrens – Dakota State (S.D.) – 6'0" – 170 lbs., Junior – kicker/punter – Flandreau, S.D. – Behrens went perfect 5-for-5 PAT kicks, where he had made 16 straight PAT kicks in the month of September, as Dakota State (S.D.) fell short to St. Ambrose (Iowa) 39-35.  He also recorded five punts for a total of 193 yards, averaging 38.6 yards per punt.  Two of his punts resulted inside the 20 yard-line and a touchback.  Behrens also had six kickoffs for a total of 370 yards, averaging 61.7 yards per kickoff.

Recap from Saturday's Games
The fifth edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Game of the Week saw an upset victory with Dickinson State (N.D.) ending Valley City State's (N.D.) NSAA conference's winning streak.  The Blue Hawks outgained the Vikings 491-223 in total offensive yards for a 28-7 victory, including outrushing the Vikings 314-153 in rushing yards and 177-70 in passing yards.  Tray Bonne rushed 34 times for 205 yards with a touchdown.  Robert Sterling passed for 114 yards with a touchdown and an interception.  Kurtis Walls was 6-of-15 with 70 yards but threw three interceptions in the game for VCSU.  DaMario Fair ran five times for 64 yards.  The Vikings' eight-game winning streak in the NSAA conference play came to an end as the Blue Hawks take a half-lead in the NSAA standings with a 2-0 record (4-1 overall record).  VCSU fell to 3-2 overall record and 1-1 NSAA record.

Mayville State (N.D.) won in a high scoring affair in their Dacotah Bank/NSAA conference opener versus Presentation (S.D.).  Tied 41-41 after the fourth quarter, the Comets outscored the Saints 15-7 in the final quarter to gain a 56-48 thrilling victory.  PC had a 48-41 lead with 13:23 remaining in the game, but MSU scored two touchdowns with 9:48 left and 2:19 remaining in the game to secure the victory.   Mayville State, who raised their overall record to 3-1 and 1-0 NSAA record, racked up a total of 555 yards (407 passing and 148 rushing) compared to Presentation 487 total offensive yards (247 passing and 240 rushing).  The Saints fell to 2-2 overall record and 0-2 NSAA record.

Dakota State dropped a heartbreaker loss at St. Ambrose (Iowa), who received votes in the latest NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 national poll.  Holding a 35-33 lead in the late fourth quarter, the Fighting Bees scored a touchdown to overtake the lead at 39-35 with less than two minutes remaining in the game.  The Trojans were unable to complete their comeback in their final possession of the game where DaSU committed a turnover with less than 40 seconds left on the opponent's side of the field.  Dakota State fell to 2-3 overall record (1-1 in Dacotah Bank/NSAA conference action).

Waldorf (Iowa) battled with Buena Vista (Iowa) in Storm Lake last Saturday night.  The Warriors jumped to a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, but BVU tied the game by halftime at 7-7.  WC regained their lead with a field goal in the fourth quarter.  The Beavers rallied back for a touchdown to take a 14-10 victory over Waldorf.  The Warriors are 1-3 overall record and remains at 1-1 record in conference play.

Looking Ahead
The sixth edition of the Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Game-of-the-Week on Saturday will take place at Swisher Field in Aberdeen, S.D. where Jamestown (N.D.) and Presentation (S.D.) are searching for their first conference victory of the season.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.

Waldorf (Iowa) is scheduled to travel to Dickinson State (N.D.) for Dacotah Bank/NSAA conference game with a kickoff starting at 2 p.m. (Central Standard Time)/1 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time). 

No. 15-ranked Valley City State (N.D.) returns home Saturday afternoon as they host Mayville State (N.D.) for both teams' second meeting of the season.  This game will be counted as a conference game.  The Vikings won the first meeting early this season in Mayville, N.D. 55-6 in a non-conference game.

Dakota State (S.D.) plays their final non-conference game of the season as they host Trinity Bible (N.D.) in Madison, S.D.  Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
