DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Football team picked up their fifth win of the season and third win in the NSAA when they defeated the Waldorf College Warriors 31-14 on Saturday at the Henry Biesiot Activities Center.
The first quarter was all Blue Hawks after a field goal by Josh Perry-Kruse and an interception return for a touchdown by Cain Boschee to put the Blue Hawks up 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Blue Hawk dominated the third quarter when Quarterback, Robert Sterling, scored two touchdowns for the Blue Hawks. Sterling scrambled for a 11 yard touchdown and on a quarterback keeper for two yards. The Blue Hawks took a 31-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Warriors closed the gap in the fourth quarter when Cody Smith connected on a touchdown pass to Gene Jackson to put the Warriors down 31-7. The final scoring for the Warriors came on a Smith touchdown pass to Kevin Pollock to finish the game with a 31-14 score.
The Blue Hawks were led on the ground by Tray Boone who finished with 116 yards. Sterling led the passing game with 84 yards while Reid had four receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown.
The Waldorf College offense was led by Cody Smith with 17 completions for 141 yards and two touchdowns while Julian Ampaw rushed for 64 yards. Alvyna Alcenord led the Warriors in receptions with four for 43 yards.
The Warrior defense was led by Darnell Colvin and Jamaar Crayton who each recorded seven tackles.
The Blue Hawks are now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in NSAA play. Dickinson State takes to the road next week as they take on the University of Jamestown Jimmies. Kick off is set for 12:00 PM (MDT).
