DICKINSON, ND- Dickinson State University football coach Pete Stanton has announced coaching changes for the 2016 football season. The Blue Hawks are coming off an 8-3 season in which they were North Star Conference champions and qualified for the NAIA playoffs for the first time since 2010.
On the offensive side, offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator Jace Schillinger will remain in this role. He will work with Tight Ends and Fullbacks. Recently hired Nick Walker, who holds most of the Dickinson State passing records, will return to coach the quarterbacks. Ryan Payne, who has been an assistant coach for Dickinson State the past two years, will take over duties as the offensive line coach. He will also assist as recruiting coordinator. Former Blue Hawks JT Keith and Myren Moore will continue in their previous roles. Keith will coach the Wide Receivers and Moore the Running Backs.
On the defensive side, Arlan Hofland will retire in May after 29 years as the Blue Hawk defensive coordinator. The teams he helped coach won 14 conference championships. Head Coach Pete Stanton will oversee the defense while continuing to coach the defensive secondary and coordinate the pass defense. Dalmin Gibson was recently hired full time as assistant strength /equipment and football coach. Coach Gibson will coach the outside linebackers and be the special team’s coordinator. Coach Jeff Miller will move from the offensive line to the defensive line. Coach Miller will be the front seven and run game coordinator. Coach Miller will also continue his role of coordinating the strength and conditioning for the Blue Hawk team. Coach Mike Williams will join the staff in the fall to coach linebackers. Coach Williams, who also played for the Blue Hawks, has been the head coach of the Heart River Cougars the past three years.
Coach Stanton stated, “We are excited to have Nick Walker join our program and for Dalmin Gibson to be full time. Jeff Miller has previous experience on the defensive side of the ball so moving him to that side was a natural fit. We have a very hard working and dedicated staff and are looking forward to doing everything we can to help our guys get ready for the 2016 season. “
The Blue Hawks will open fall camp on August 9. Their first game is at Miles City, Mt against Western Montana College on August 27.
