Blue Hawk Football Takes Down Vikings in Non-Conference Game

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Football team defeated the Valley City State University Vikings on Saturday in the Blue Hawks home opener with a score of 38-13.

Jacob Duilio put the Vikings on the board first in the first quarter with a touchdown run to lead the Blue Hawks 6-0 after a failed extra point conversion.

Jed Fike then put the Blue Hawks on the board with a 20 yard touchdown run on fourth and one and the Blue Hawks would take the lead for good with a Cody Johnson extra point to put DSU up 7-6.

In the second quarter, Kaler Ray connected with Chase Andersen on a 67 yard touchdown pass followed by a good extra point by Johnson to put the Blue Hawks up 14-6.

Johnson would add a 20 yard field goal late in the second quarter to put the Blue Hawks up 17-6 going into halftime.

Early in the third quarter, Ray connected with Jamion Lindsey for a 35 yard touchdown pass to put the Blue Hawks up 24-6 then on the next series, Tray Boone ran in a five yard rushing touchdown to put DSU up 31-6.

Jake Peterson would score on a 14 yard touchdown pass from Kurtis Walls late in the third quarter to put the Vikings down 31-13.

The last scoring of the game came on a one yard touchdown run by Boone for his second touchdown of the game and put the Blue Hawks up 38-13 and beat the Vikings.

Dickinson State finished with 233 rushing yards and 219 passing yards for a total of 452 yards.

Valley City State finished with 102 rushing yards and 205 passing yards for a total of 307 yards.

Boone led the running game for the Blue Hawks with 74 yards on 20 carries with 2 touchdowns. Ray connected on 12-18 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Lindsey hauled in 3 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Noey Tauave and Thomas Sease led the Blue Hawk Defense with 10 tackles each. Sease and Cain Boschee also collected an interception in the victory over the Vikings.

Duilio led the Vikings running game with 101 yards on 27 rushes with a touchdown. Walls connected on 20-36 passing attempts with a touchdown pass. Colby Lum led the Viking receivers with three receptions for 80 yards.

Nicholas McBeain led the Viking defense with 19 tackles.

The Blue Hawks are now 1-1 on the season and host Northwestern (IA) next Saturday at the Biesiot Activities Center. Kick off is set for 1:00 PM (MDT).
