DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Football team began their 2016 NSAA season with a huge win over the Presentation College Saints on Saturday at the Biesiot Activities Center.
Kalyer Ray put the Blue Hawks on the board first with a 14 yard QB keeper in at the 6:19 mark in the first quarter followed by a Cody Johnson extra point to put the Blue Hawks up 7-0.
Jed Fike would increase the Blue Hawk lead to 14-0 with a two yard touchdown run on the Blue Hawks next drive.
Tray Boone then put the Blue Hawks up 21-0 with a one yard touchdown run at the beginning of the second quarter.
Austin Eggl completed a 33 yard touchdown pass to Logan Weisser at the 8:48 mark in the second quarter to cut the Blue Hawk lead to 21-7 then the Saints defense would get a safety on the Ray to cut the Blue Hawk lead to 21-9.
With under a minute left in the second quarter, Eggl would again connect with Weisser for a eight yard touchdown pass to cut the Blue Hawk lead to 21-16 heading into halftime.
Boone then increased the Blue Hawk lead to 28-16 early in the third quarter on a eight yard touchdown run.
At the 9:09 mark in the third quarter, Eggl connected for the third tim to Weisser on a 18 yard touchdown pass, putting the Saints down 28-23.
The Saints would take their only lead of the game in the third quarter at the 5:57 mark when Eggl connected with Weisser on a seven yard touchdown pass, their fourth TD connection of the day.
Johnson woyuld give the Blue Hawks the lead again in the third quarter when he connected on a 28 yard field goal putting the Blue Hawks up 31-29.
In the fourth quarter, Ray scrambled for a seven yard run but fumbled the ball at the one yardline where Jamion Lindsey jumped on the ball for a Blue Hawk touchdown, increasing the lead to 38-29.
The next two Saints possessions were halted by Cain Boschee when he intercepted back to back passes from Eggl and took both of them into the endzone for touchdowns.
Eggl would lead the Saints back when he connected with William Moffet on a 16 yard touchdown pass to cut the Blue Hawk lead to 52-36.
Johnson would put the Blue Hawks up 55-36 with a 32 yard field goal with under two minutes to go in the game.
Ray tossed for 101 yards on 15 attempts with an interception. Ray also ran for 110 yards and scored a touchdown. Boone finished with 97 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.
Drew Johnson led the Blue Hawk defense with 12 tackles while Tommy Sease finished with 10. Boschee finished with two interceptions for touchdowns.
Eggle tossed for 329 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Edmond Jacobs ran for 87 yards and Weisser pulled in 12 catches for 157 yards and four touchdowns.
Jeff Branch led the Saints defense with eight tackles and an interception.
The Saints are now 2-1 overall and 0-1 in NSAA p[lay.
The Blue Hawks are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in NSAA play.
Dickinson State now travels to Valley City State University on Oct. 1st to play the Vikings in a NSAA game.
