Cain Boschee and Cody Johnson Named NSAA Football Players of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – The fifth edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week was announced by the conference office Monday. Cain Boschee of Dickinson State (N.D.) was selected as Defensive Player-of-the-Week, while his teammate Cody Johnson was named to Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Austin Opdahl – Dakota State (S.D.) – 6'1" – 185 lbs., Junior – wide receiver – Madison, S.D. – Opdahl caught 8 passes for 175 yards (21.9 yards per reception) with three touchdowns to propel No. 24-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) to a 36-17 North Star Athletic Association conference opener over Jamestown (N.D.) 36-17.  It was the fifth straight game that he has registered over 100-plus receiving yards, his third game this season where he had more at least 175 receiving yards.  It was also Opdahl's fourth time this season that he caught at least three touchdown passes.  Opdahl recorded the longest reception of 69 yards in the fourth quarter.

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Cain Boschee – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 6'3" – 185 lbs., Sophomore – defensive back – Kalispell, Mont. – Boschee intercepted two passes and took both into the end zone for touchdowns in the fourth quarter as No. 21-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) defeated Presentation (S.D.) 55-36 in NSAA conference season opener.  He returned for a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown with 11:42 remaining.  Boschee added another interception return for a touchdown of 37 yards on the ensuing possession.  He also recorded seven tackles (5 solo) in the game.    

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Cody Johnson – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 5'10" – 200 lbs., Freshman – kicker – Sidney, Mont. – Johnson was perfect going 7-for-7 on PAT extra-point kicks in No. 21-ranked Dickinson State's (N.D.) 55-36 NSAA conference season opener over Presentation (S.D.).  He also added a pair of field goals – a 28-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

No. 21-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) kicked off their conference title defense by opening the NSAA schedule with a 55-36 high scoring affair with Presentation (S.D.) in the Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Game-of-the-Week in Dickinson, N.D.  Holding a 31-29 lead, the Blue Hawks outscored the Saints 24-7 in the final quarter to earn the victory.  DiSU rushed for 306 yards compared to PC 129 rushing yards, but the Saints outpassed the Blue Hawks 329-101 in the game.  Dickinson State won their third straight game to raise their overall record to 3-1 (1-0 NSAA conference record) while Presentation fell to 2-1 overall record (0-1 NSAA).

Dakota State (S.D.), ranked No. 24 in the NAIA Football Coaches' Top 25 national poll, also won their third straight game after defeating Jamestown (N.D.) 36-17 in both teams' conference season opener in Madison, S.D.  After a 13-9 halftime lead, the Trojans scored 20 straight points as the lead ballooned to 33-9 in the fourth quarter.  DaSU outgained UJ 398-384 in total offensive yards.  Dakota State lifted their overall record to 4-1 (1-0 NSAA).  Jamestown dropped to 1-4 overall record (0-1 NSAA).

Valley City State (N.D.) opened up with a 26-0 halftime lead over Waldorf (Iowa) in the NSAA conference opener in Valley City, N.D.  The Vikings added 10 more points and never looked back as they defeated the Warriors 36-7.  VCSU registered 416 total offensive yards while holding WU to 225 offensive yards.  Valley City State improved to 2-2 overall record (1-0 NSAA) while Waldorf is 1-4 overall record (0-1 NSAA).

Mayville State (N.D.) bounced back in the winning column after a 35-6 dominating victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.).  The Comets held the Lions to just two passing yards, while MSU recorded 381 yards in the air.  MSU racked up a total of 498 offensive yards in the game compared to TBC 153 offensive yards.  Mayville State is 2-2 overall record.

Looking Ahead
Three games will be on schedule for this Saturday.  Presentation (S.D.) stays on the road as they visit Trinity Bible (N.D.) for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.

In NSAA conference action, No. 21-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) travels on the road for a match-up with Valley City State (N.D.) at 3 p.m.  Waldorf (Iowa) returns home as they host No. 24 Dakota State (S.D.) at 4 p.m.
