Steven Koch Named Dacotah Bank/NSAA Football Defensive Player-of-the-Week

MADISON, S.D. – The eighth edition of the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football Players-of-the-Week was announced by the conference office Monday.  Jake Peterson of Valley City State (N.D.) was selected as Offensive Player-of-the-Week.  Steven Koch of Dickinson State was chosen as Defensive Player-of-the-Week.  Dylan Paulson of Presentation (S.D.) was named as Special Teams Player-of-the-Week.

NSAA Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jake Peterson – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6'4" – 195 lbs., Freshman – wide receiver – Larimore, N.D. – All four of Peterson's catches went for touchdowns as Valley City State (N.D.) upset No. 19-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) 41-22.  He had scores of 24 yards and 4 yards in the first-half, helping the Vikings to a 21-6 halftime advantage.  Peterson added 61 yards and 43 yards touchdown receptions in the second-half.  He set career-highs in receiving yards with 132 and four (4) touchdown catches. 

NSAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
Steven Koch – Dickinson State (N.D.) – 6'3" – 220 lbs., Junior – linebacker – Buffalo, S.D. – Koch had an interception that he took back 23 yards and a touchdown in No. 14-ranked Dickinson State's (N.D.) 41-13 North Star conference victory over Jamestown (N.D.).  He also recorded three tackles (1 solo, 2 assists).  Koch registered 0.5 tackles-for-loss for 2.5 yards as the Blue Hawks extended their winning streak to six games.    

NSAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Dylan Paulson – Presentation (S.D.) – 6'0" – 170 lbs., Freshman – kicker – Aurora, Colo. – Paulson recorded four (4) punts for 159 yards while averaging 39.8 yards per punt in Presentation's (S.D.) 74-0 rout over Finlandia (Mich.).  He made a field goal of 31 yards and converted 9-of-10 PAT extra-point kicks for the Saints.  Paulson also had 12 kick-offs for a total of 687 yards with two touchbacks. 

Recap from Saturday's games
Valley City State (N.D.) jumped to a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter at No. 19-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) in the Dacotah Bank/North Star Athletic Association Football Game-of-the-Week in Madison, S.D.  The Trojans trimmed the Vikings' lead 21-14 in the early fourth quarter, but VCSU outscored DaSU 20-8 in the rest of the game to earn a 41-22 upset victory over the Trojans.  The Vikings held the Trojans to their season-lows in points (22) and total offensive yards (298).  Valley City State exploded for 517 offensive yards in the game.  The Vikings won their second straight road game to raise their overall record to 4-3 and 3-1 NSAA conference record.  The Trojans' four-game winning streak came to an end, falling to 5-2 overall record and 2-1 NSAA.

No. 14-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) roared to a 41-0 lead through the first three quarters and never look back as they defeated Jamestown (N.D.) 41-13 to become the only undefeated team in the North Star conference play.  The Blue Hawks rushed for 309 yards compared to the Jimmies' 246 rushing yards in the game.  Dickinson State lifted their overall record to 6-1 and 4-0 NSAA, while Jamestown lost their fifth straight game.  UJ is 1-6 overall record and 0-3 NSAA conference record.

Mayville State (N.D.) earned their first North Star conference victory of the season as they held off Waldorf (Iowa) 35-28 in Mayville, N.D.  The Warriors held a 14-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Comets scored 28 straight points to take a 35-14 lead in the fourth quarter.  MSU recorded 382 offensive yards compared to WU 325 offensive yards.  Mayville State is 3-3 overall record and 1-1 NSAA.  Waldorf lost their sixth straight game, falling to 1-7 overall record and winless in four North Star conference games.

Presentation (S.D.) routed Finlandia (Mich.) 74-0 in Aberdeen, S.D.  The Saints racked up a total of 643 offensive yards while holding FU to just 91 yards.  PC is 5-1 overall record (1-1 NSAA conference record).

Looking Ahead
Three North Star conference games are on schedule this Saturday.  No. 14-ranked Dickinson State (N.D.) hosts No. 19-ranked Dakota State (S.D.) in Dickinson, N.D.  Valley City State (N.D.) returns home as they welcome Presentation (S.D.).  Mayville State (N.D.) heads to Jamestown, N.D. to take on Jamestown (N.D.).  Waldorf (Iowa) will be idle this Saturday.
