DICKINSON, ND- The Blue Hawks now know who they will be taking on in the first round of the NAIA. The Blue Hawk team will be traveling to Ashland, Oregon to take on the Southern Oregon University Raiders.
The Blue Hawks head west with a seven-game win streak. The Blue Hawks last loss came to Northwestern College (Iowa), on September 9th. Since then the Blue Hawks have rolled through the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) portion of their schedule, their closest game a 28-25 win over Dakota State.
The Blue Hawks will head into the playoffs off their dominant win over Mayville State. In the game against the Comets the Blue Hawks were able to find the end zone ten times, with touchdowns coming from nine different players. The Blue Hawks were able to rest and keep healthy their first-string players and give their reserves a crucial experience moving forward. The Blue Hawks dominant performance offensively was matched by the defense and they cruised to a 70-7 victory.
The Blue Hawks put together a 9-1 record on the season, 8-0 in NSAA play. The Raiders have been able to compile an undefeated season. Southern Oregon's feat comes in the traditionally tough Frontier Conference, with wins over at the time ranked Eastern Oregon and Montana Tech.
The Raiders and Blue Hawks do have one common opponent, both having played rocky Mountain College (RMC) earlier in the season. The Blue Hawks took on RMC in the first game of the year in August. The Blue Hawks were able to control and win that early season matchup with the Frontier team. The Blue Hawks success offensively and defensively propelled them to a 43-28 win, in Dickinson. The Raider's had to take out RMC in Billings and the game was much closer. The RMC Bears had an opportunity to take down the Raiders, but an overthrown pass late gave Southern Oregon a 24-23 victory.
The Raiders have seen success in the playoffs in the past and this will be their third-time hosting in the first round in the last four years. Southern Oregon University teams have also never lost in the first round, making it six times previously.
This is the Blue Hawks third straight trip to the playoffs, losing to Frontier's Montana Tech in the previous two years. The last time these two programs played was in the 2013 season when the Blue Hawks were a part of the Frontier Conference. The Raiders got the better of the Blue Hawks that day taking the victory.
The Blue Hawks and the Raiders will clash Saturday, November 18, at 1:00 PT (2:00 MT). Tickets will be available Monday at 1:00 p.m MT HERE. You will be able to find the livestream online HERE or in the Dickinson area on Consolidated Cable Channel 18.
