DICKINSON, N.D. – Blue Hawk football's Thomas Sease has accrued his share of recognitions this season. The senior from Bismarck was named the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Defensive Player of the Year. He also received his third selection to the NSAA All-Conference First-Team.
Thursday afternoon, Sease received another recognition, this time from the National level. The Blue Hawk was named one of the eleven NAIA Football Player of the Year Nominees. The award recipient will be announced by the NAIA next Friday.
Throughout the 2017 season Sease has led one of the most effective defenses in all of NAIA. Over the course of the season Sease has tallied 71 tackles and two sacks. Sease was also able to snatch three interceptions, returning one 88-yards for a touchdown. Sease accumulated all of this in only 10 games while battling wrist injuries.
Sease's success has been apparent for his four years with the program. The Blue Hawk linebacker's impact on the team was immediately apparent. In the four years on the field, Sease set multiple program records. With 128 tackles in 2016 he set the program's most tackles in a season record, then in his senior year Sease set the record for career tackles, finishing with 317.
Sease was also named an NAIA Scholar Athlete following the 2016 season. To receive a Scholar Athlete recognition a student must maintain a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and must have achieved at least a junior academic status.
