Dickinson, ND – The Blue Hawks won a nail biter over Valley City State on Friday (Nov. 29), 67-63. Dickinson State improves to 2-4 on the year.
Dickinson State looked to take a 32-29 lead into the locker room at half time, but Jeff Romeus knocked down a mid-range two. The Blue Hawks would head into the half with a 32-31 lead.
With just under 10 minutes to play Dickinson State trailed the Vikings by four. FreshmanJacob Volk and junior Tevin Russell both knocked down a two point shot to even the scoreboard at 51. That would be the last deficit the Blue Hawks would see. Mac Kroeplin would tie the game at 53-53, but Valley City could not find away to gain the lead. Dickinson State led 64-63, with .07 seconds left on the clock, before a technical foul was given to the Valley bench. Russell made both of his free throws, followed by Volk adding another to finish give the Blue Hawks a four point lead and the win.
Paxton Lloyd and Aaron Duske led the Vikings with nine points. Duske also led Valley City with eight rebounds. Overall the Vikings tallied 46 rebounds, two steals, and finished with a 35.8 shooting percentage.
Tevin Russell led the Blue Hawks offense with 22 points. Junior center Mackenson Odenierpicked up 15 points. Odenier also led Dickinson State with six rebounds. Dickinson State finished the game with 40 rebounds, three blocks, and a 35.1 shooting percentage.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the court Saturday (Nov. 30) against Mayville State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
