DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State defeated the University of Winnipeg on Sunday (Dec. 15), 70-68. The Blue Hawks are now 4-6 on the season.
With 3:40 Dickinson State held a 64-57 lead. Tynan Reyes made a two from close range, before Jelane Pryce nailed a three to cut the lead to 64-62. After a free throw by Brock Boos, Christopher Baxter made it a one point game with two converted free throws, 65-64. With 11 seconds left in regulation Ty Ackelson went to the paint and picked up two and was fouled by Samuel Hattin. Ackelson converted one free throw to make the score 70-66. Baxter would knock down a mid-range two to bring the score to 70-68. As time expired Stephen Wesley threw up a shot that would land off the mark. The Blue Hawks hung on to win 70-68.
Winnipeg was led by Christopher Baxter who tallied 19 points, while Samuel Hattin and Jelane Pryce both added 13. Stephen Wesley led the Wesman with seven rebounds. Jordan Clennon led with seven assists. The Wesman finished with 41 rebounds, 13 assists, and a 46.3 shooting percentage.
Junior Tevin Russell led the Blue Hawks with 20 points, while senior Brock Boos picked up 17 off the bench. Junior center Mackenson Odenier added 14. Odenier also led the Blue Hawks with eight rebounds. Boos played 18:31 and shot 5-for-10 from beyond the three-point arc. The Blue Hawks finished with 39 rebounds, a 35.4 shooting percentage, and 10 steals.
The Blue Hawks will be back on the court on December 28 as they travel to Winnipeg to face the Wesmen.
