DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks played host to the Bulldogs of the University of Montana-Western on Saturday (Feb. 1) in a Frontier Conference game. Dickinson State seniorTy Ackelson picked up 18 points, but it was not enough as the Blue Hawks fell 86-75. Dickinson State is now 7-15 overall and 2-8 in conference.
Maazin Butler recorded 22 points for the Bulldogs and Gabe Rucker notched 14. Jordan Overstreet and Jake Owsley had 12 and 11 points respectively. Owsley led Montana-Western with eight rebounds. The Bulldogs finished with 36 rebounds, 18 assists, 14 turnovers, 12 steals, and a shooting percentage of 45.9.
Ackelson's 18 points were a team high for the Blue Hawks, while junior centerMackenson Odenier finished with 15. Freshman guard Jacob Volk picked up 11 and junior guard Tevin Russell registered 10 points. Odenier tallied a team high eight rebounds, while Russell added six. Dickinson State finished with 38 rebounds, five assists, seven steals, and a shooting percentage of 40.7.
At half time the Blue Hawks honored long-time football coach Hank Biesiot. Biesiot spent 38 years as the head coach for Dickinson State and compiled a 258-121-1 record. The Blue Hawks claimed 17 conference championships under his leadership. Biesiot was elected to the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
Dickinson State will be on the road for their next game. They travel to Westminster for a Frontier Conference game on Thursday (Feb. 6). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
