Blue Hawks close out Wesmen Classic with 69-63 victory

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – The Blue Hawks closed out the 2013 Wesmen Classic with a 69-63 win over Lakeland College in the 7th place game.  Dickinson State is now 5-8 on the season.

Emmanuel Jones provided nearly half of Lakeland's offense, totaling 30 points.  Lucas Derksen added 13 points of his own.  Dickinson State's defense held three Lakeland players to zero points and one player to two.  Steven Jones and Caleb Wilkins each pulled down six rebounds.  Lakeland finished with 29 rebounds, a 45.7 shooting percentage, and 24 turnovers.

Senior Ty Ackelson came off the bench and led the Blue Hawks with 15 points.  Ackelson was 5-for-9 from the floor and tallied three assists in 27 minutes.  Junior Tevin Russell picked up 14 points, senior Brock Boos had 13, and junior Mackenson Odenier continued his strong play in the Wesmen with 10.  Odenier led the Blue Hawks with nine rebounds.  Dickinson State finished with 35 rebounds, 15 assists, 17 steals, and a 42.9 shooting percentage.

The Blue Hawks will be back on the court after the New Year on Thursday (Jan. 2) as they play host to the University of Great Falls.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Scott Gymnasium.
