Wetzel Inks North Dakota Native

DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State University Head Men's Basketball Coach Justin Wetzel is pleased to announce point guard Billy Engel has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Blue Hawks in 2014-15.

The Cooperstown, N.D. native will join the Blue Hawks from Daktota College at Bottineau, where he played from 2012-14.  During his sophomore year he helped guide the Jacks to a Region 13 championship.

Engel attended Griggs County Central High School and was a two sport athlete.  He was named an all-region selection in football his junior year.  Engel also served as the captain of the football team his junior and senior year.  On the court, he was twice named an all-conference selection and served as team captain for three years.  During his junior and senior years, Engel helped guide the team to third place in the district tournament.

"The first thing I noticed about Billy is his toughness and how he plays hard on every possession," Wetzel said.  "In addition, he is an excellent student and a great example of what a student-athlete should be.  He is the son of a very successful high school coach so he understands the value of being coachable and being a leader."

Engel is the son of Bill Engel and Lisa Ringstad and intends to major in business.
