DICKINSON, N.D. – Mackenson Odenier posted 22 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Hawks on Friday (Nov. 28) in an 82-71 win over Montana-Western. Dickinson State is now 4-6 on the season.
The Blue Hawks overcame a slow start against the Bulldogs, who posted a 21-9 lead nine minutes into play. The Blue Hawks fought back to a 26-20 deficit, before Jacob Volk was fouled. Volk went to the line and converted on all three of his free throws, to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 26-23. Volk made another field goal with 6:01 to play in the half to cut the deficit to one. Liam Thomas then took a pass from Connor Donaldson and nailed a three, giving the Blue Hawks a 28-26 lead.
Stephen McCall tied the game with 47 seconds left, at 36-36. Odenier and Tevin Russell each converted a field goal to send the Blue Hawks into the locker room with a 40-36 lead.
The Blue Hawks did not look back in the second half. Shyke Smalls knocked down a short range shot to cut the lead to two, but the Bulldogs would never be able to even the score after half.
McCall led the Bulldogs with 23 points, while Dexter Williams Jr. finished with 15. Smalls recorded 10 points. Williams finished with a team high nine rebounds. The Bulldogs finished with 35 rebounds, 12 assists, 15 turnovers, and a shooting percentage of 39.1.
Odenier finished with 22 points and nine rebounds. Russell finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, to earn a double-double. Donaldson also picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jacob Gondrezick picked up 12 points. Thomas came off the bench for nine points. Dickinson State finished with 43 rebounds, nine steals, two blocks, 14 assists, and a shooting percentage of 50.
Dickinson State will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 29) against Rocky Mountain College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
