DICKINSON, N.D. – Myka Brown turned in his second straight stellar performance for the Blue Hawks, as Dickinson State captured its seventh win of the season over Briercrest. The Blue Hawks notched an 84-49 victory and improved to 7-9 on the season.
During Friday's game, Brown posted 12 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds, and eight points. Saturday, he took he picked up his first double-double of the season.
On Saturday, Brown came off the bench for the Blue Hawks and played 25 minutes. On the court, he finished 7-of-9 from the floor and converted on both free throw attempts at the line. He finished with 16 points.
Brown once again showed his strength as a rebounder. He finished with a team high 15 rebounds, eight of which were offensive. Brown's eight offensive rebounds doubled the team total for Briercrest (four).
The Clippers were able to hold the first half score closer than on Friday. With 11:30 to play in the first, Ryan Penner hit a jumper to cut the Blue Hawks' lead to 17-13. A pair of field goals from Connor Donaldson and Curtis Redd would extend the lead back to 21-13 for Dickinson State. While the Clippers were able to shorten the Blue Hawks' lead in the first, they were unable to overcome Dickinson State's offense. Briercrest scored just 20 points in the second half.
Julian Apakoh led the Clippers with 14 points, while Penner recorded 10. Brandon Friesen recorded a team high eight rebounds. The Clippers finished with 34 rebounds, seven assists, six steals, one block, 27 turnovers, and a shooting percentage of 32.1.
Tevin Russell led the Blue Hawks with 22 points. Redd finished with 13 points and four steals. Donaldson picked up 12 rebounds. Jeremy Samuelson finished with five rebounds, four of which came in the offensive zone. Dickinson State finished with 62 rebounds, 13 assists, 14 steals, and a shooting percentage of 39.5.
Dickinson State will take to the road for their next two games, the first is against Oglala Lakota on Jan. 15.
