JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Blue Hawks went to overtime against conference rival Jamestown on Wednesday (Jan. 28) but could not reel in a win. Dickinson State fell 79-74. Jamestown improves to 15-5, 3-0 in conference, while the Blue Hawks fall to 9-11 overall and 1-2 in North Star play.
The Blue Hawks held a 30-25 lead with 3:37 remaining in the first half, after a Billy Engel three. After Mackenson Odenier converted a free throw, Jake Hagler knocked down two straight threes to even the score with 1:30 in the half at 31-31.
The see-saw battle continued in the second half. Dickinson State evened the score with 4:35 to play on a Curtis Redd free throw, 60-60. Vlad Stoicoviciu notched a three-pointer to put the Jimmies back on top.
Redd made converted a jumper with 2:11 remaining to give the Blue Hawks a 66-65 lead. Hagler converted a three for Jamestown and was followed by a Taylor Newton free throw to edge their advantage to 69-66.
With 32 seconds left, Jacob Gondrezick hit a three to even the score, 69-69.
Jamestown scored first in overtime, on a field goal by Cedric Smith, and did not relinquish the lead. The Jimmies held on for a 79-74 victory.
Tucker finished with a team high 24 points for Jamestown. Hagler notched 13, while Smith came off the bench for 12. Newton recorded 11 points and a team high seven rebounds. Jamestown finished with 47 rebounds, 21 assists, two steals, one block, 17 turnovers, and a shooting percentage of 43.9.
Odenier led the Blue Hawks with 16 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Redd tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Engel came off the bench for 12 points. The Blue Hawks finished with 42 rebounds, 17 assists, six steals, one block, and a shooting percentage of 37.3.
Dickinson State will be back in action on Saturday (Jan. 31) in Valley City. Tip-off is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
