Blue Hawks Fall to Comets in Thriller

MAYVILLE, ND- The Dickinson State University Men's Basketball team dropped another close game on Wednesday night to the Mayville State University Comets by a score of 59-56.

The Blue Hawks finished the game with one of their lowest scoring games of the season as they dropped their first NSAA game of the season.

Mayville State took a 26-24 lead into halftime after shooting 31 percent from the field and 27 percent from three in the first half while the Blue Hawks shot 40 percent from the field and did not connect on any of their seven three point attempts in the first half.

Dickinson State held a one point lead with nine seconds to go in the game before the Comets scored a basket with three seconds remaining. After a Blue Hawk turnover and a foul, the Comets made two free throws and a last second shot for the Blue Hawks to tie, was off line.

Reggie Fields Jr. led the Blue Hawks with 20 points and 11 rebounds while Curtis Redd and Julian Vasquez each added 12 points in the loss to the Comets.

The Blue Hawks finished the game shooting 37 percent from the field, eight percent from three and 42 percent from the line with 44 rebounds, nine assists, 13 turnovers, six blocks and six steals.

Mayville State finished the game shooting 33 percent from the field, 30 percent from three and 75 percent from the line with 46 rebounds, 11 assists, 15 turnovers, seven blocks and five steals.

Dickinson State is now 10-9 overall and 3-1 in the NSAA.

The Blue Hawks return home on Saturday when they host Dakota State University at 6:00 PM (MDT) in Scott Gymnasium for Blue Hawk Booster Appreciation Night.
