DICKINSON, ND- Head Men’s basketball coach Justin Wetzel announced the signing of a pair 6’11 athletic centers, Thomas Cowen Mt. San Antonio College and Brandon Jamar from Los Angeles Southwest College.
“Anytime you can add one 6’11 athlete to the program it’s great but for us to get two 6’11 athletes is really a testament to what Dickinson State and the community has to offer,” stated Coach Wetzel.
Thomas Cowen a native of Portmore, Jamaica is coming to Dickinson State from the very successful Mt. San Antonio College program in California. The Mounties finished with an astonishing 27-2 record this past season winning the South Conference title in the CCCAA. Cowen shot 52% from the field and 75% from the free throw line.
“Thomas we feel is someone who can develop into a big contributor for us, he has played behind D-1 centers at Mt San Antonio so his minutes have been limited. Thomas has been in a winning program the past two years, I have tremendous respect for Coach Maloney at Mt Antonio and when he tells me Thomas can contribute on the court and he’s a good person…I listen,” said Coach Wetzel.
Brandon Jamar from Venice CA played the past two years at LASW averaging 8ppg, 7rpg, 4bpg, Jamar also plays in the very prestigious “Drew League” during the off-season in LA with former NBA star (formerly known as Ron Artest) Metta World Peace’s team.
“Brandon is a tremendous athlete at 6’11, he can run the floor, block shots, can catch and finish around the rim, and he has played under Coach Kyles for two years so I know he’s been well coached. Brandon is from a great family and has a big personality, his talents are no secret he had many schools recruiting him," said Coach Wetzel.
