Hot Second Half Leads Blue Hawks to Conference Win over Dakota State University

DICKINSON, ND – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Men's Basketball team soar to a 76-63 North Star Athletic Association win over the Dakota State University Trojans on Wednesday night behind a great overall team effort.

The Blue Hawks trailed Dakota State at halftime with a score of 34-36 and the Blue Hawks outscored the Trojans in the second half with a 42-27 score to win the contest with a final score of 76-63.

The Blue Hawks were led in the scoring department by junior Jerry Shevlin with 18 points. Juniors Ryan Clark, Marcus White and Terrell Butler also scored in double digits for the Blue Hawks. Marcus White led the Blue Hawks with 12 total rebounds. Ryan Clark pulled down 8 rebounds  and senior Gilberto Shojgreen Jr. also grabbed 7 total rebounds for the Blue Hawks in the win. Jerry Shevlin led the Blue Hawks with a total of 4 assists for the game.

Dakota State University was led by junior forward Kyle Kilgore with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Junior guard Tanner Heiser added 17 points and 3 rebounds for the Trojans.

Dickinson State shot 49 percent from the field, 62 percent from three and 44 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Hawks recorded a total of 44 rebounds, 13 assists, 7 blocks, 4 steals and 8 turnovers.

Dakota State University 39 shot percent from the field, 36 percent from three and 78 percent from the free throw line. The Trojans recorded a total of 31 rebounds, 3 blocks, 9 turnovers, 10 assists and 3 steals.

The Dakota State University Trojans fall to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in NSAA play.

The Blue Hawks are now 9-4 and 4-0 NSAA. The Blue Hawks travel west to Billings, Montana over the holiday break for their next two contests against non-conference foes Montana-Western and Rocky Mountain College on December 29th and 30th. The Blue Hawks next home contest will be on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 as they host non-conference opponent Trinity Bible College at 7:30p.m. (MDT) in Scott Gymnasium.
