VALLEY CITY, ND– The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Men's Basketball team edged to a 74-73 North Star Athletic Association win over the Vikings of Valley City State University Monday night behind a great team defensive effort and two free throws by Marcus White with 10 seconds remaining.
The Blue Hawks trailed Valley City State at halftime with a score of 33-39 and the Blue Hawks outscored the Vikings in the second half with a 41-34 score to win the contest with a final score of 74-73.
The Blue Hawks were led in the scoring department by senior Reggie Fields Jr. and junior Ryan Clark with 14 points each. Junior Marcus White led the Blue Hawks with 6 total rebounds. Ryan Clark and Reggie Fields also pulled down 5 total rebounds each for the Blue Hawks in the win. Junior Jerry Shevlin led the Blue Hawks with a total of 3 assists for the game.
Valley City State University was led by junior guard Rashad Satahoo with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assist. Jaden Ferguson and Austin Dunbar added 20 points each for the Vikings.
Dickinson State shot 47 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 78 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Hawks recorded a total of 26 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 blocks, 5 steals and 11 turnovers.
Valley City State shot 53 percent from the field, 53 percent from three and 64 percent from the free throw line. The Vikings recorded a total of 30 rebounds, 5 blocks, 16 turnovers, 10 assists and 4 steals.
The Valley City State University Vikings fall to 12-10 overall and 4-41 in NSAA play.
The Blue Hawks are now 14-7 and 6-2 NSAA. The Blue Hawks next home contest will be on Friday, January 20th, 2017 as they host North Star Conference rival Valley City State University at 7:30p.m. (MDT) in Scott Gymnasium.
