Blue Hawks hold off tough Vikings for a hard fought win

DICKINSON, ND – The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Men's Basketball team fought their way to a 60-57 North Star Athletic Association win over the Valley City State University Vikings on Friday night behind a great overall team effort.

The Blue Hawks trailed the Vikings at halftime with a score of 23-32 and the Blue Hawks outscored the Vikings in the second half with a 37-25 score to win the contest with a final score of 60-57.

The Blue Hawks were led in the scoring department by junior Ryan Clark with 14 total points. Juniors Marcus White and Terrell Butler also scored in double digits for the Blue Hawks. Junior Marcus White led the Blue Hawks with 14 total rebounds each. Senior Gilberto Shojgreen Jr. also pulled down 8 total rebounds for the Blue Hawks in the win. Junior Jerry Shevlin led the Blue Hawks with a total of 4 assists for the game.

Valley City State University was led by junior forward Jayden Ferguson with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Junior guard Rashad Satahoo added 21 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist for the Vikings.

Dickinson State shot 42 percent from the field, .06 percent from three and 64 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Hawks recorded a total of 47 rebounds, 10 assists, 6 blocks, 9 steals and 18 turnovers.

Valley City State University shot 37 percent from the field, 27 percent from three and 72 percent from the free throw line. The Vikings recorded a total of 28 rebounds, 2 blocks, 16 turnovers, 2 assists and 7 steals.

The Valley City State University Vikings fall to 12-11 overall and 4-5 in NSAA play.

The Blue Hawks are now 15-7 and 7-2 NSAA. The Blue Hawks next home contest will be on Saturday, January 21st, 2017 as they host North Star Athletic Association opponent Waldorf University at 5:00p.m. (MDT) in Scott Gymnasium.
