Blue Hawks cruise past Mayville State Comets

DICKINSON, ND- The Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Men's Basketball team cruised to a 70-48 North Star Athletic Association win over the Mayville State University Comets on Saturday night behind a great overall team effort.

The Blue Hawks lead Mayville State University at halftime with a score of 35-19 and the Blue Hawks outscored the Comets in the second half with 35-29 score to win the contest with a final score of 70-48.

The Blue Hawks were led in the scoring department by junior Marcus White with 17 points. Junior Terrell Butler also scored in double digits for the Blue Hawks with 12 points and junior Jerry Shevlin and senior Gilberto Shojgreen Jr. chipped in 10 points each. Marcus White and Terrell Butler led the Blue Hawks with 6 total rebounds each. Senior Brandon Jamar and junior Ryan Clark also grabbed 5 total rebounds each for the Blue Hawks in the win. Senior Reggie Fields Jr. led the Blue Hawks with a total of 5 assists for the game.

Mayville State University was led by freshman forward Max Cooper with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Junior forward Kiree Robinson chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds for the Comets.

Dickinson State shot 48 percent from the field, 44 percent from three and 54 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Hawks recorded a total of 40 rebounds, 12 assists, 11 blocks, 6 steals and 9 turnovers.

Mayville State University shot 32 percent from the field, 25 percent from three and 60 percent from the free throw line. The Comets recorded a total of 36 rebounds, 8 turnovers, 3 block and 5 steals.

The Mayville State University Comets fall to 8-14 overall and 1-11 in NSAA play.

The Blue Hawks are now 18-7 overall and 10-2 in NSAA play. The Blue Hawks next contest will be on Friday, February 3rd, 2017 as they go up against North Star Athletic Association opponent Bellevue University at 6:30p.m. (MDT) in Bellevue, Nebraska.

The Blue Hawks next home contest will be on Friday, February 17th, 2017 as they host North Star Athletic Association rival Jamestown University at 7:30p.m. (MDT) in Scott Gymnasium.
