Blue Hawk men's basketball struggled in their first home game in a month. The Blue Hawks dropped the conference game to the Bellevue Bruins 79-68.
Despite a quick start to the game, the Blue Hawks quickly fell behind the Bruins. Bellevue's hot shooting from deep led them on a 20-6 run late in the first half. Behind BJ Shelton's 12 first half points, the Bruins steady offense thrived. The Blue Hawks were able to slightly chip away at the deficit in the last minutes of the half, cutting the gap to 42-30.
In the second half, the Bruins continued dominance. Bellevue saw their lead grow to 20 with five minutes remaining in the game and they cruised to the victory.
Marcus white led all scorers with 26 on the evening. Ryan Clark led the Blue Hawks with nine rebounds. As for the Bruins, BJ Shelton fell on rebound short of a double-double, with his 19 points and 9 rebounds.
The Blue Hawks woes from the free throw line and beyond the arch hindered them throughout the game. DSU was only 4-20 in three point shooting and 14-23 at the charity strip. The Bruins only missed two free throws in the game and shot 33% from three.
The Blue Hawk men's basketball team will take on conference opponent Dakota State Saturday evening at 5:00 for senior night.
