Jimmies hold on to win 2018 North Star Athletic Association Men's Golf Conference Tournament

FINAL RESULTS:  Individual/Team

WAVERLY, Iowa - Despite recording the third-best team score Tuesday, Jamestown (N.D.) held on to win the 2017-18 North Star Athletic Association Men's Golf Conference Tournament at Prairie Links Golf Course (par-72, 6,126 yards).  After holding a 19-stroke lead, the Jimmies lead went down to nine strokes after Bellevue (Neb.) posted the fourth-round best score of 291.

UJ never trailed in the conference tournament, including the continuation from the fall qualifier in North Dakota last September.  The Jimmies finished with a team score of 1,189 strokes, nine strokes ahead of runner-up honor by the Bruins with 1,198 strokes.  Valley City State surged into third-place with 1,231 strokes, followed by Viterbo (Wis.) fourth with 1,238 strokes.  Waldorf (Iowa) was fifth with 1,254 strokes and Dickinson State (N.D.) sixth with 1,355 strokes.

BU's teammates Fernando Arzate and Andre Becerra went to the playoff hole after finishing the conference tournament with 4-over-par (292 strokes).  Becerra won the individual title by winning on the third playoff hole.  Jacob Rice of Jamestown was third with 299 strokes (11-over-par).

As a result, Becerra was named to the North Star Athletic Association Men's Golfer-of-the-Year.  UJ's Vince Drahman was named to the North Star Men's Golf Coach-of-the-Year award.

Jamestown qualified for the NAIA Men's Golf National Tournament at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. on May 15-18.

ROUND THREE RESULTS:  Individual/Team

WAVERLY, Iowa - Jamestown (N.D.) maintains their control after three rounds of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Golf Tournament held at Prairie Links Golf Course (par 2, 6,126 yards) Monday.  The Jimmies currently leads by 18 strokes over the two-time North Star's defending champion Bellevue (Neb.).

Bellevue posted its best team score of the day, recording a 12-over 300 in the third round.  UJ proudced the second-best third round score of 301, followed by Waldorf (Iowa) with 309 strokes, Valley City State (N.D.) 315 strokes, Viterbo (Wis.) 316 strokes and Dickinson State (N.D.) 340 strokes.

The team standings remain unchanged from the second round last fall. 

Fernando Arzate and Andre Becerra of Bellevue are now the tournament's co-leaders at 5-over par (221 strokes).  Both Arzate and Becerra finished with a round of 72 (even-par) Monday.    Jacob Rice of Jamestown remains third wth 7-over par (223 strokes) after shooting a round of 75 (3-over-par).

Nolan Frank of Jamestown posted the best low score in the third round.  He fired a round of 71 (1-under par) for the Jimmies. 

The final round of the NSAA Men's Golf Conference Championships is set for Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

ROUND TWO RESULTS:  Individual - Team

MEDORA, N.D. - Jamestown (N.D.) stretched their lead after the second round of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Golf Conference Tournament held at Bully Pulpit (par 72, 6655-yard golf course).  After taking an 11-stroke lead after the first round, the Jimmies widen their team lead by 19 strokes over second-place Bellevue (Neb.).

UJ totaled 588 strokes after two rounds, firing a second round team score of 290 strokes.  BU is second with 607 strokes (31-over-par), followed by Viterbo (Wis.) third with 610 strokes (34-over-par).  Valley City State (N.D.) is fourth with 625 strokes (49-over-par), while Waldorf (Iowa) is fifth with 641 strokes (65-over-par).  Dickinson State (N.D.) is sixth with 670 strokes (94-over-par).

Jamestown have three golfers in the top three in the individual race, led by Zach Gomez with two round scores of 142 (2-under-par).  He posted the best score of the second round, firing four-under-par 68.  Nathan Kapaun is second with 146 strokes after two rounds (2-over-par), followed by Jacob Rice with 148 strokes (4-over-par).  Fernando Arzate and Andre Becerra of Bellevue each are tied for fourth with 149 strokes (5-over-par).

The final two rounds of the North Star Athletic Association Golf Conference Tournament will be held in April 2018.  Waldorf is slated to host the spring golf conference tournament in Albert Lea, Minn.

ROUND ONE RESULTS:  Individual - Team

MEDORA, N.D. - Jameestown (N.D.) opened up the first round of the 2017 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Fall Men's Golf Tournament with an 11-stroke lead over second-place Viterbo (Wis.) Monday.  The fall men's conference tournament is being held at Bully Pulpit (par 72, 6655-yard golf course), hosted by Dickinson State (N.D.).

Jamestown recorded a team score of 298 strokes in the first round, followed by Viterbo second with 309 strokes.  Valley City State (N.D.) and Bellevue (Neb.) are tied for third with 310 strokes.  Waldorf (Iowa) is fifth with 322 strokes while Dickinson State is sixth with 334 strokes.

Three golfers are tied for first after the first round of the conference fall golf tournament.  Andre Becerra of Bellevue, Nathan Kapaun and Jacob Rice of Jamestown are tied with a first round score of 73 strokes (1-over-par).  Zach Gomez of UJ is fourth with 74 strokes (2-over-par) followed by Jeremie Pasitney of Valley City State fifth with 75 strokes (3-over-par).
