Blue Hawks capture pair of victories at Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks battled it out in the arena for points, against the Great Plains region teams, at the annual University of Nebraska-Lincoln college rodeo. Both the men's and women's teams dominated coming out on top for most points earned, while Cody Hilzendeger won the all-around title with 190 points.  The men collected 623 points, while South Dakota State University finished in second with just 466.  The women notched 280 points on their way to victory.

The bareback riding kicked things off with Jordan Pelton placing second in the first round with a 70 point ride. Pelton also placed third in the third round for the bareback riders.

In steer wrestling, Evan Entze won the first round with a time of 5.9 seconds.Cameron Morman took seventh place with a 10.5 second run and came back to win the short round with a 4.4 run.  

Hilzendeger took second place in tie down roping with a time of 10.5 seconds. Dillon Wickumalso placed in the long go with a time of 10.9 which split third and fourth place. Hilzendeger also placed sixth in the short round with a broken barrier.

In saddle bronc riding Dalton Rixen took first in the long go with a score of 60 points and was unfortunately no scored in the short round.

Hilzendeger placed again in the team roping, racking up points towards the all-around title, while roping with Samantha Jorgenson from Black Hills State University. The team placed seventh in the long go with an 8.6 and won the short round with a time of 13.2.

In the women's breakaway roping Jordyn Schafer split second and third in the long go with a 3.4 and took fourth place in the short go with a 4.1.  Schaefer ended up splitting third and fourth place in the average.

Bobbi Grann won the first round in goat tying with a time of eight seconds flat and placed second in the short go with an 8.2 second run.  Grann also won the average.

In the barrel race Victoria Netzer, and her mare Pasa, made a pair of identical runs of 14.41 seconds and took second in the average.    

The Blue Hawks will be back in action on Friday (Apr. 25) and Saturday (Apr. 26) when they compete in the Yellow Jacket Stampede.
