Men Finish Third in Rodeo and Region

DICKINSON, ND- (Complete Results) Neither the men’s nor women’s team were able to take the team title at their home rodeo.  The Blue Hawk Men finished the year with 4,415 points, 555 out of second and well back of champion South Dakota State’s 5,640.

Blake Smith won his fourth straight rodeo in the bareback riding, finishing second in the first round with a 65 and winning the short go with a great 79 point ride on a re-ride horse. Smith was the regional reserve champion despite missing most of the fall season due to injury.

Cameron Morman got the job done at his home rodeo to climb from second to first in the steer wrestling year end standings. Morman was needed at least 60 points between the short go and average after making it back in tenth hole with a 7.0. He delivered with a 6.3, which won the short go and placed in second in the average, netting 110 points and propelling him ahead of Mitchell Tech’s Jason Hapney for his second straight regional title in the steer wrestling.

Evan Entze’s points coming into the weekend were enough to keep him in the third position and qualify him for nationals. Entze broke the barrier at the Blue Hawk Stampede.

Tyler Thorson picked up 60 points in the tie down roping for his second place run of 10.9 in the short go and sixth in the average. Thorson finished fourth in the region.

Kling Rodeo’s broncs proved to be too much for the cowboys in the long round with no qualified rides and only two qualified rides in round two. Dalton Rixen was not able to stay aboard at the Stampede, but built a big enough lead throughout the season to remain atop the bronc riding standings for the regional championship.
