Hauck & Raty Lead the Blue Hawks in the Short

The Blue Hawks Rodeo Team traveled to the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede rodeo in North Platte, Neb., September 15-16, 2017. Freshman Jayden Olson rode for 65 points in the bareback riding but his luck didn't follow him to the short go as he didn't receive a score. Sophomore Clay Jorgenson took a nasty kick to the head in the bareback riding in the long go. Despite being knocked out, he came out of it with a smile and is cleared to ride at the next rodeo. The saddle bronc riders all experienced tough luck and no one made it to the buzzer. Junior Jamie Mullins ended up getting stitches in his forehead after a kick to the head; he is fine and is cleared to ride at the next rodeo. In the tie down roping, senior Chance Glass showed that consistency is key; he had solid runs in both the long go and the short go and ended up fourth in the average. Two Blue Hawks made it to the short go in the steer wrestling, freshman Sterling Lee and junior Lane Berg. Berg had consistent runs in both rounds and ended up fourth in the average. Lastly, Berg stuck on one bull for the weekend, earning him fourth place.

The female Blue Hawks had a little better luck this weekend. Senior Meagan Raty made the short go in two events, breakaway roping and goat tying. Her loop didn't fall around the calf's head in the short go but she made a consistent second run in the goat tying. Freshman Jade Boote made the short go in the breakaway roping but also experienced tough luck in the short go. Senior Maclyn Hauck earned a spot in the short go in the team roping with partner Randall Fuhrer of Mitchell Technical Institute but the team was unable to get a time in the short go. Jami Derflinger narrowly missed making the short go in the barrel racing and ended up in eleventh place.

The Men's Team is currently sitting tied for third in the Great Plains Region. Chance Glass and Sterling Lee are sitting first and second in the region, respectively, in the tie down roping, and Lee is also claiming second in the steer wrestling.
