Track and Field - Fri, Dec. 6, 2013
DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Daniel is pleased to announce Mike Nekuda as the new men's and women's track and field head coach.
"Mike has done a fantastic job at Dickinson State in both cross country and track and field," Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Daniel said. "We felt this was a natural move for us. Mike's work ethic, dedication, and support for his student-athletes made him the perfect choice to continue expanding the success within the programs."
Nekuda helped guide Dickinson State's track and field programs last season to 11 All-Americans, 15 total All-American awards, and a 5th place team finish. The 2013-14 season will be Nekuda's third season at Dickinson State after being hired through an open and competitive search.
"I'm honored to take over as the Head Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach at Dickinson State University," Mike Nekuda said. "I've been privileged to work with a future NAIA Hall of Fame Track and Field Coach for the past two years and feel grateful to have learned a lot from Coach Stanton. I want to make the transition as smoothly as I can for our student-athletes and track and field coaching staff. I'd be a fool to change much and rebuild the system that is already set in place. I plan on continuing to recruit, mentor, and coach positive individuals that represent Dickinson State University well."
Nekuda graduated from Black Hills State (S.D.), where he was part of one of the most successful men's cross country teams in the school's history. He was a key component of the 2007 Black Hills team that set the Dakota Athletic Conference record for lowest points scored (19) and then later became the NAIA Runner-up National Champions.
Mike currently lives in Dickinson, N.D. with his wife Kerry and his dog, Mya.
