Jose Chorro earns NSAA Track Male Athlete of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its first edition of the Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week honors, announced by the conference office Tuesday.  Tyler Lems of Dakota State (S.D.) was selected to the Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while Jose Chorro of Dickinson State (N.D.) was chosen as Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Tyler Lems – Dakota State (S.D.) – Freshman – Canton, S.D. – Lems set four different personal best throws and placed in the top eight in three different throwing events at the Vance Butler Invitational for Dakota State (S.D.), which featured numerous athletes from NCAA Division II.  He placed fifth in the javelin throw with a measurement of 166 feet, 1 inch (50.62 meters).  Lems added a sixth-place finish in the discus throw of 145 feet, 7 inches, moving him in the top 5 in the Trojan men's outdoor track & field record book.  He recorded an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a throw measurement of 45 feet, 1 inch (13.74 inches).  Lems moved into the No. 5 spot in the DSU record book in the hammer throw with a measurement of 129 feet, 9 inches and earned 15th-place finish.

Jose Chorro – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Sal Salvador, El Salvador – Chorro posted a national qualifying time in Dickinson State's (N.D.) season outdoor track & field opener at Black Hills State Yellow Jacket Spring Open.  He clocked a national qualifying time of 14.79 seconds to capture the 110-meter hurdles title.  Chorro also ran in a pair of relay teams that also won the titles.  He anchored the 4 x 100-meter relay team that clocked a time of 42.02 for a first-place finish.  The Blue Hawks also added a first-place finish in the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:26.40.  Chorro also competed in the long jump as he placed third with a jump measurement of 21 feet, 10.25 inches (6.66 meters).

Looking Ahead
Dakota State (S.D.) heads to Orange City, Iowa Friday and Saturday to compete in the two-day Red Raider Invitational, hosted by Northwestern (Iowa) College.

Dickinson State (N.D.), Jamestown (N.D.) and Valley City State (N.D.) are slated to compete in the Northern State (S.D.) Open on Friday and Saturday in Aberdeen.
