Chorro Named NSAA Track Athlete of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – Tyler Lems of Dakota State (S.D.) and Jose Chorro of Dickinson State (N.D.) were selected to the final edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Outdoor Track & Field weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday.  Lems was chosen as its Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while Chorro was picked as its Track Athlete-of-the-Week.

Tyler Lems – Dakota State (S.D.) – Freshman – Canton, S.D. – Lems dominated the throwing events in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference meet, capturing a pair of throwing titles for Dakota State (S.D.).  He was first in the shot put with a measurement of 14.38 meters and javelin throw with a throw measurement of 50.78 meters.  Lems also earned a runner-up honor in the discus throw, tossing 43.61 meters.  He was third in the hammer throw with a measurement of 41.26 meters.  As the result, Lems was named the NSAA Men's Field Most Valuable Performer after scoring a total of 19 points in the meet.  Dakota State finished second in the NSAA conference meet, edging out Jamestown (N.D.) by three points (82-79).

North Star Athletic Association Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Jose Chorro – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Sophomore – Sal Salvador, El Salvador – Jose Chorro claimed five different titles at the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) conference meet, guiding Dickinson State (N.D.) to their first-ever conference team title.  He was first in both hurdles events, winning the 110-meters in a national qualifying time of 14.56 seconds and won the 400-meters by a time of 54.96 seconds.  He anchored a pair of relay teams that won the title with a time of 42.39 seconds in the 4 x 100-meter relay and 3:23.25 in the 4 x 400-meter relay.  Chorro also won the long jump with a measurement of 6.78 meters.  As the result, he was named the NSAA Men's Track & Meet Most Valuable Performer for the Blue Hawks.

Dickinson State (N.D.) won the first-ever North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Men's Outdoor Track & Field conference team title after scoring 148 points.  Dakota State (S.D.) is second with 81 points, followed by Jamestown (N.D.) with 78 points.  Valley City State (N.D.) is fourth with 38 points.

Jose Chorro of Dickinson State (N.D.) was named to NSAA Track and Meet Most Valuable Performer in the conference meet.  Tyler Lems of Dakota State (S.D.) earned the NSAA Field Most Valuable Performer.  Jace Schillinger of Dickinson State was picked as the league's outdoor track & field Coach-of-the-Year.

Looking Ahead
The 64th Annual NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship meet will be held on May 21-23.  The national meet takes place at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
